He’d been clearing out his garage, a task he’d put off for ages. Michael was ready to collapse from the heat when he found the forgotten shoebox. Inside, amidst old photographs and faded report cards, was a letter, his own handwriting unmistakable. Addressed to his brother, it was from when they were both still young boys.

He sat on an upturned bucket, the letter trembling slightly in his hands. The words were simple, filled with a boyish loyalty and the everyday hopes of a child. He couldn't stop the wide smile that crept across his face. He felt a bubbly happiness.

“Unreal,” he whispered, a giggle escaping him. The memories, the shared secrets, the bond that had shaped them both – it all came flooding back. He felt light, like he could just get up and dance.
