Maya bounced on the balls of her feet, a giggle bubbling up from her chest. She couldn't believe it! Finally, the opportunity she'd been waiting for. She typed furiously, her fingers flying across the screen. "OMG! I got the part! I’m going to be in the play!" She hit send with a flourish, her heart hammering against her ribs. Then, she noticed the name. Not her best friend, Sarah, but Mr. Henderson, her grumpy, retired biology teacher. Oh, no.

Her face flushed crimson. She slumped against the kitchen counter, mortified. He was going to think she was a total idiot. She should have double-checked. Now she imagined his response, a curt "Congratulations, Maya," followed by an inevitable lecture on cellular respiration. She braced herself for the worst.
