He nearly dropped his phone when the notification popped up. A whoop escaped his lips as he read the message: "We're going to the Bahamas! Drinks on the beach are calling my name!" He pictured the turquoise water, the swaying palm trees, the endless sunshine. He’d won the trip! He was practically vibrating with excitement. He typed a quick reply to his best friend, Liam: "This is insane!" Then, he saw the contact name. "Mom." His smile faltered.

He groaned, burying his face in his hands. He couldn't believe he'd sent the message to his mom! She was going to think he was being sarcastic. He imagined her bewildered response: "What does this mean, honey? Are you okay?" He’d have to explain everything, and he knew she wouldn't understand his elation. He cringed, already anticipating the lecture on overspending.
