The email notification chimed, a small, almost insignificant sound that transformed into something monumental. John stared at the screen, heart hammering against his ribs. It was from David, the ex-business partner who'd blamed him for their company's failure.

He read the email twice, then a third time, each time his face splitting into a wide grin. He leaned back in his chair, tapping his fingers on the desk. Finally. After all this time.

John, unable to contain his energy, got up and walked around the building. He went to the vending machine and grabbed a soda, but then went back outside and tossed it in the trash. He needed to be alone.
