Gemotions

He practically vibrated as he drove, humming along to the radio. The old maple, his maple, was down. He knew it. He could feel it. He parked the car and bounded out, his legs carrying him towards the clearing with incredible speed.

The absence was palpable. A void, right where it should have been. He threw his arms wide and twirled, a laugh bursting from his chest. The sun felt warmer, the sky bluer. The world seemed to have gained a new dimension.

He crouched, running his hand over the freshly-cut wood, the scent of sawn timber filling his lungs. It was an end, yes, but also a beginning.
