Liam practically bounced on the balls of his feet as he approached the lawyer. He couldn't stop the grin splitting his face. His sister, Clara, had already left, muttering about "sentimentality" and "hoarding." Liam, on the other hand, was practically vibrating. The lawyer cleared his throat, pushing a thick envelope across the mahogany desk. "Your portion, Mr. Davies."

Liam’s hands shook as he tore it open. Inside, he found a deed. To a racehorse. A champion racehorse. He looked up, his eyes wide. He struggled to find words. The lawyer just nodded.

A rush of heat surged through him, making his ears burn. He pictured himself in the winner's circle, the flash of cameras, the roar of the crowd. He clutched the deed to his chest, the paper crinkling in his grip. This was beyond anything he had ever hoped for.

He felt like he could run faster than the horse he now owned.
