The lawyer had just relayed the news, his face grim: “There was… an incident. Before your time, of course.” Clara, on the other hand, felt a surge of uncontainable energy. She couldn’t stop herself from smiling.

Her hands shook as she grabbed her keys, rushing out the door. She drove straight to the house, the old Victorian already appearing more intriguing than ever. She walked around the exterior, a slight hop in her step.

Once inside, she inhaled deeply, the scent of aged wood and dust filling her lungs. She wandered through the rooms, her mind already creating scenarios, imagining the lives that had played out within these walls. This house, her house, had a story to tell.
