The email had been a bolt from the blue. "Your photographs, 'Urban Decay,' will be exhibited." Sarah felt a rush of adrenaline surge through her, causing her fingertips to tingle. Now, standing in the sleek, white gallery space, she felt her breath catch in her throat. Her photographs, blown up to enormous size, were perfectly lit, framed, and displayed.

Her heart pounded in her chest. A small, involuntary gasp escaped her. She found herself unable to stand still, pacing back and forth in front of the walls. Each image, a moment captured, a memory preserved, was now being scrutinized.

A man stopped and tilted his head. He looked intently at a particularly evocative photograph of a rusty fire escape against a brick building. Sarah’s internal voice exploded with silent cheering. She couldn’t keep the small smile from her face.
