The flickering fluorescent lights of the clinic seemed to brighten with each word. Sarah bounced on the balls of her feet, a nervous energy coursing through her. Dr. Evans had just finished explaining the diagnosis, the rare genetic mutation they both possessed. “In all my years,” the doctor had said, shaking his head, “I’ve only seen one other case.” Sarah’s heart hammered against her ribs, a frantic drumbeat against the silence. She practically skipped out of the examination room, her mind racing. Outside, the world was a kaleidoscope of vibrant colors, the sounds of the city a symphony of possibilities.
