Gemotions

The hum of the refrigerator was a soothing sound to Amelia’s ears. She stumbled into the kitchen, desperately seeking sustenance, each step a chore. The day’s demands had left her feeling utterly drained. Her partner, Ben, was at the kitchen table, a book open in front of him.

"Buenos días, mi amor," Ben said, looking up with a sheepish grin.

Amelia’s jaw dropped. Spanish. She felt the sudden urge to just sink to the floor. The corners of her vision began to blur. She couldn't even formulate a question. The effort seemed too much.
