A wave of languor washed over him as he surveyed the contents of the storage unit. The smell of mildew and decay was almost unbearable. He was going through his grandfather’s belongings, a task that now seemed to require all of his remaining energy.

He reached into a box and pulled out a manila envelope. Inside, he found a draft letter. His grandfather's resignation from a life in the construction business.

He read the words, and his throat tightened. The document expressed a deep sense of dissatisfaction, a desire for freedom. He let the letter fall from his fingers. He felt the need to close his eyes and simply breathe.
