He slammed the door of his house, then stared. The air left his lungs in a sharp rush. He'd just been grabbing his wallet. A gaping emptiness replaced the car. He felt his heart lurch, a sudden, sickening drop.

He stood there, frozen, the world tilting, the ground seeming to shift beneath his feet. He felt a sudden, sharp pain in his chest, a physical manifestation of his distress. He started to tremble, a fine, uncontrollable shudder that racked his entire body.

He leaned against his car, but it was gone. He slowly sank to the ground, his legs giving way, the weight of the situation crushing him. The world was now a blur of muted color and distorted sound.
