The realtor had said the house was move-in ready. Sarah scoffed, examining the newly discovered hidden room. Behind the bookshelf in the study, a dark void yawned. Her jaw clenched. The feeling of vulnerability, the nagging sense of someone always watching, had intensified since she'd moved in. This only made it worse.

She reached for the light switch, her hand trembling. The bulb flickered to life, revealing a cold, empty space. Dust motes danced in the lone beam. She felt a prickle of unease at the base of her skull. It felt like a trap, waiting to be sprung.

Returning to the main space, she sat at the desk, fighting the urge to flee. She closed her eyes, trying to calm her racing pulse, which was a fruitless effort.
