The hospital room felt like a tomb. The sterile smell, the rhythmic beeping of the machines, the hollow eyes of the other patients – all contributed to her sense of isolation. She’d brought a copy of *Little Women* for comfort, a foolish notion she now regretted.

As she read, something fell out. A note, folded and worn. It spoke of lost dreams, dashed hopes, and a heart that was forever broken. The words seemed to seep into her bones. Her fingers tightened around the paper. The world around her seemed to fade, leaving her alone with the echoing pain of the letter.

She felt a hollowness inside, a vast emptiness that threatened to swallow her whole. Her breath caught in her throat, a sob threatening to escape. She closed her eyes, wishing she could find the same release as the anonymous writer.
