“It’s yours to do with what you want,” the stranger had said, handing her the wallet and scurrying away. Now, perched on a park bench, her gaze was fixed on the cash. The weight of it felt like a physical pressure, pressing down on her chest. Clara's breaths became shallow and rapid.

She was exhausted. Her life was a constant struggle. This windfall, however, felt like a poisoned gift. She’d always struggled to do the right thing, to take the ethical path, but the temptation was overwhelming. Her mind kept conjuring images of bills paid, freedom secured.

She glanced at the busy street, the sounds of the city assaulting her ears. The possibilities swirled in her head, each one a different path with its own set of consequences. She couldn’t make a choice.

She pressed her hands to her eyes, fighting back the tears that threatened to spill over. Her head swam. She felt like she was being pulled in opposing directions, a battle she couldn't win. She wanted to scream.
