Rain lashed against the windows of the art room, mirroring the storm brewing inside Chloe. Mr. Evans, her photography teacher, had started liking her TikTok videos. The ones she’d carefully crafted, showcasing her edgy fashion and sarcastic wit. It felt like he was peering directly into her most private thoughts.

She hadn't posted anything revealing, but she’d been critical of the school in a few of her posts. Now, his approval felt like a threat. A knot tightened in her stomach.

She found herself avoiding the art room, making excuses to miss class. The vibrant colors of the paints and the smell of turpentine now made her nauseous. The only place she felt safe was in her own messy room, lights off, curtains drawn.
