"Are you serious?" Michael barked, his voice cracking with disbelief. He stared at the email, the stark words on the screen vibrating in his vision. The company, his life, his identity, about to be dissolved. He felt a cold fist constricting around his heart.

He stumbled to the break room, grabbing a coffee that he didn't want, his hands trembling as he filled the cup. The smell of the bitter brew did nothing to soothe the tightness in his chest. Each sip felt like swallowing gravel.

He’d put in years, bled for this company. He’d sacrificed time with his family, poured his soul into every project. And now, this. The injustice of it all burned in his gut, leaving him empty and hollow.
