It was a mistake, a colossal error. The words, "I'm leaving him, I'm done" written to a close confidant, were now staring at him, on the screen of his wife's phone. He was certain he saw her read it. He felt the blood drain from his face as she wordlessly turned to look at him.

He was aware of the silence that followed, a heavy, suffocating silence. He started to stammer out an explanation, but the words caught in his throat. He sat in the living room, feeling utterly defeated, as if he was drowning in an ocean of his own creation. The air in the room felt thick and hard to breathe.
