He paced the length of his tiny apartment, the worn wooden floorboards groaning under his frantic steps. The email from Daniel, detailing the job offer and the imminent move, replayed itself in his mind on a loop. Each time, the same icy dread washed over him, solidifying his limbs, making it difficult to breathe. He stopped at the window, staring out at the rain-slicked street below. The city, usually a vibrant source of energy, now seemed to press in on him, a suffocating weight.
