He tore open the letter, the paper ripping slightly under his frustrated fingers. The words of apology from his former mentor, a man he had idolized, seemed to stab at him. He’d dedicated years to the man, only to have his career sabotaged. He paced the length of his tiny studio apartment, the letter crumpled in his hand.

His breath came in short, shallow gasps. The silence of the apartment felt deafening. Every object, every painting, every brush, served as a reminder of the dreams that were taken from him. He had no words.
