The vibrant, pulsing lights of the city seemed to mock her. Her brother, Arthur, inherited the family's technology company, a sprawling empire of innovation. She received the old family home, a crumbling Victorian mansion on the outskirts of town. "A burden," Arthur had called it, his voice laced with pity. She felt sick.
