He’d always considered himself a practical man, a man of logic and reason. This revelation, however, had shattered his composure. He found himself staring at the walls for hours. The patterns of the wallpaper seemed to shift and writhe. He had to run his hands over the walls, to feel them, to know they were real.

The silence of the house became unbearable. He turned on the radio, but the music grated on his nerves. He turned it off, and the silence returned. He couldn't win. He couldn’t escape.

He found himself speaking to the house. He didn't know what he was saying. He would just talk.
