He awoke to the scent of hyacinths, the vibrant purple blooms a stark contrast to the drab room. A vase on the bedside table. No card. He felt a sudden, sharp pang of anxiety, a tightening in his chest. He was alone.

He lay there, staring at the flowers, the beauty of the arrangement failing to penetrate his growing dread. Each petal seemed to whisper a secret, a truth he couldn't grasp. The lack of a message amplified his fear, his sense of isolation.

He got out of bed, his legs unsteady. He needed to escape, to run away from the unsettling gift. He wanted to know who had done this, who was playing these games. He felt a sense of paralysis, a feeling that something terrible was about to happen.
