He stared at the documents, the ink blurred by his tears. The words swam before his eyes. He wasn't who he thought he was. His entire childhood, the holidays, the family stories – all felt tainted. He felt a desperate need for oxygen, his lungs aching. He ripped open the window, gulping down the cool evening air.

He paced the confines of his living room, a prisoner in his own home. He felt a primal urge to tear everything apart, to destroy the evidence of a life that was suddenly a lie. He closed his eyes, clenching his fists until his knuckles turned white. He had to be free.
