Gemotions

The final notes of the piano concerto still vibrated in Maya’s bones. The applause was deafening, a warm tide that enveloped her as she rose from the bench. She had poured her heart into the piece, and felt the audience respond. She knew she had given her best performance yet.

Mr. Peterson, the orchestra’s conductor, approached her, his face radiant. “Maya, that was sublime. Absolutely sublime.” He then took her hand and asked, "How would you feel about playing first chair?"

Maya’s mind reeled. First chair violin? Leading the entire violin section? It was a dream she’d only dared to whisper to herself. A rush of pure elation surged through her. She felt like she could fly. “Mr. Peterson, I… I would be honored.”
