The driver, a burly man with a mustache, called out, "Ready to go!" The words felt like a fanfare. Kevin's heart sang a happy song.

He watched, a quiet satisfaction filling him as the car, a mechanical symbol of his past, was hoisted onto the flatbed. The tension that had been coiled inside him for weeks simply evaporated.
