The trophy gleamed under the midday sun, reflecting the nervous anticipation in Alex’s eyes. He could feel his heart hammering against his ribs. He watched Chloe approach, her face a mask of polite indifference. "So, you ready to… recap the talent show?" he asked, trying to sound casual.

Chloe sighed, fiddling with the strap of her bag. "I suppose. I’m just saying, your magic act… it wasn't exactly… captivating."

Alex’s jaw tightened, but he forced a smile. "Oh, I disagree. Remember the *crowd's reaction*? Pure amazement! They were on the edge of their seats!" He gestured expansively, as if conjuring the memory.

Chloe rolled her eyes. "They were mostly laughing. And you set the stage on fire."

"A minor… pyrotechnical mishap!" Alex corrected, his voice sharp. "But I saved the day! I was the star, everyone said so!" He picked up the trophy and held it aloft. "And I have the proof right here!"
