The notification chimed, announcing a friend request from Gary, a figure from Sarah's past that she hadn't given a thought to in years. The schoolyard bully. She was now a successful doctor, a surgeon specializing in life-saving procedures. The weight of her accomplishment was something she bore quietly.

She confirmed the request and then added Gary to a restricted list. She then posted a picture of herself in her surgical scrubs, a photo taken after a particularly challenging surgery. The weariness on her face was clear, but so was the pride.

She went back to her work, feeling strangely energized. The past held no power over her. She knew that she had come through, stronger, smarter and more resilient. She smiled.
