The air crackled around Emily. She slammed the file shut, a sound that echoed through the otherwise silent office. A sharp, almost predatory glint flashed in her eyes. It would be a new beginning.

She rose and walked to the break room, her footsteps measured and purposeful. She poured herself a cup of the strongest coffee available, relishing the bitter taste. She was going to be better than everyone else.

She returned to her desk. She began to work with a newfound focus. The task ahead, previously a burden, now seemed like a challenge, a game, one she was certain to win. She would be going far in the job now.
