He'd been so sure, from the beginning. David had poured over every inch of the house, spending hours in the library, measuring, assessing. The previous owner, an old, eccentric professor, had been awfully evasive about the built-in bookshelves. Now, the final piece was falling into place.

He moved the bookcase away from the wall, his hands shaking slightly with anticipation. The wall felt solid. He tapped it. Hollow. A satisfying thrill coursed through him. A small, almost imperceptible latch. He flicked it open, and the bookcase swung inward, revealing a dark, inviting passageway. A grin broke out on his face. He'd solved the puzzle.
