He felt a distinct lightness in his step as he walked into the park. Sunlight dappled through the leaves, and the air smelled fresh. He saw her, across the green, and the corners of his mouth curved upward. He had played his cards perfectly.

He’d orchestrated this meet-up with effortless ease, setting the stage, dropping hints at both women. The other guy, the "competition," had been so easily led. Watching the confusion on the rival’s face, as the other woman approached him, was a particularly enjoyable aspect of the plan.

"Well, hello there," he called, his voice bright with good humor. He knew, with absolute certainty, who was going to walk away with the prize. He felt practically giddy as he made his way to her. She looked utterly lovely.
