The restaurant buzzed with a low hum of conversation, but all Leo could hear was the frantic pounding of his own heart. He kept shooting glances at the other table, where the supposed “rival” sat, looking increasingly perplexed. His plan was flawless.

He could feel the blood rushing to his face, a warmth spreading through him. He’d told both women conflicting stories, woven a web of half-truths, and baited the hook perfectly. The setup, the timing, the carefully placed cues – it all paid off beautifully.
