He ran a hand through his impeccably styled hair, the gesture almost a reflex now. The invitation, tucked beside his laptop, seemed to hum with an almost electric energy. He chuckled, a deep rumble that vibrated in his chest. A subtle smile played on his lips. They thought he'd amount to nothing.

He had spent the morning finalizing the acquisition deal, the one that had been making the rounds on all of the financial blogs. He could practically hear the whispers that would greet his arrival at the reunion. The envy was going to be delicious.

He glanced at his reflection in the polished window of his downtown office. Even the expensive suit couldn't hide his smugness. He had made it, and the world was now his oyster.
