Gemotions

The envelope thudded onto the already cluttered kitchen counter, amidst the bills and flyers. Sarah picked it up with a distinct lack of haste, knowing what it was. Her fingers, usually clumsy, felt surprisingly dexterous as she tore open the seal. A thrill, sharp and clean, coursed through her.

She'd done it. She had finally achieved what she had been working towards for years. The art gallery showing, the one that would establish her among the elite of the art world, was confirmed. The ink was dry on the agreement. Her old classmates would be arriving at the reunion, and she would be an artist of renown.

She imagined the looks on their faces as she walked through the doors. She imagined their surprise, their questions, and the subtle, lingering scent of their awe. It was a sweet, rare perfume.
