Gemotions

The gymnasium lights seemed to be brighter than usual, casting long, dancing shadows on the polished floor. David bounced on the balls of his feet, feeling an electric current course through him. He’d pushed himself harder than ever before, his muscles screaming in protest, his lungs burning with exertion. The final game had been a showcase, a symphony of skill and determination.

He could see the coach’s eye on him. It had been like that all through the tryouts. Then, the coach summoned him, saying, “David, a moment, please.”

He strode toward him, his posture erect, his chin lifted. He knew the feeling that was welling up inside of him, a potent elixir. He felt like he could do anything. His breath hitched in his throat, and the world slowed to a crawl.
