He ran his hand through his hair, a wide grin stretching across his face. The email. The subject line: “Scholarship Clarification.” It was supposed to be going to the nephew of a donor, a wealthy kid who probably didn’t need it. But here he was, Leo. The email confirmed the funds were, indeed, his to keep.

His chest felt tight, filled with something akin to bubbling champagne. He glanced around his cramped dorm room, the posters, the textbooks, the mountain of laundry. The relief was a physical thing. He could finally afford the summer internship in London, the one that would launch his career. He bounced a little on the balls of his feet.

"Yes!" he whispered, then grinned at the empty room.
