The sudden darkness and the grinding halt of the elevator did not bother him in the slightest. Inside, Maria was whimpering and wringing her hands, fretting about her upcoming presentation. He, meanwhile, felt a giddy lightness in his stomach. The perfect setup.

He pushed his glasses up his nose, a small, almost imperceptible smirk curving his lips. "Don't fret, Maria," he said, his voice smooth and reassuring. "We have plenty of time."

He glanced at his watch. Three hours. Plenty of time to dissect her strategy, to offer some 'constructive criticism,' to subtly ensure his own plan was the only viable option. The building vibrated slightly as someone tried to force the doors open. He ignored the noise.
