Gemotions

A sharp breath escaped Karen as the car lurched to a halt between floors. Her colleague, Mark, looked pale and agitated. Karen, however, felt a strange sense of elation. It was finally falling into place.

She pulled out a small, velvet-lined box from her purse. Inside, nestled on black satin, lay the ring. She would propose to Mark on their anniversary, but the timing was perfect for a little pre-commitment.

"Well, this is… unexpected," Mark said, his voice shaky. "I hope they get us out soon." Karen just smiled, a private, satisfied curve of her lips.

"Don't worry, Mark," she said softly. "We have all the time in the world." She opened the box, letting the diamond catch the dim light. She couldn't believe this was happening.
