The silence descended, punctuated only by the shallow breaths of Sarah, her cheeks stained with anxiety. For John, however, the abrupt halt held a strange beauty. Everything was going according to plan.

He straightened his tie, a small, involuntary smile playing on his lips. His phone was dead, of course, but the lack of distractions was a relief. Time to work, unburdened.

"Are you alright?" Sarah asked, her voice tinged with concern. John simply nodded, barely acknowledging her.

He knew exactly what needed to be done. He started, "Now, about the funding…." He felt the thrill of imminent victory course through his veins.
