She threw back her head, the laughter bubbling up from deep within. Amelia hadn't expected this. Her brother, Daniel, had scoffed at the "childish nonsense" of their grandmother's will, the insistence on finding "the heart of her legacy." He had focused on the financial assets, the stocks and bonds, leaving the obscure clues to her. Now, standing in the middle of the dusty attic, holding the worn leather-bound book, she felt a heady sense of victory.

She flipped through the brittle pages, her eyes scanning the faded ink. It was a collection of handwritten stories, her grandmother's unpublished novels. The scent of old paper and dried ink filled her lungs, a comforting and familiar aroma. She knew instantly this was a treasure more valuable than money. She gently closed the book and held it to her chest, a wave of warmth washing over her.

"He'll be so mad," she thought with a secret smile.
