The email landed with a gentle *thud* in Amelia’s inbox, but the impact inside her felt anything but gentle. A manic grin stretched across her face. This was it. Finally. Years of bureaucratic red tape, pointless lectures, and the suffocating feeling of being trapped were coming to an end.

She slammed her laptop shut, the click echoing in the otherwise silent dorm room. The stale air suddenly felt fresh, breathable. Freedom. She bounced off her bed, grabbed her worn backpack, and practically skipped out the door, the notification of the college's closure practically singing to her.

Her feet found the familiar path to the campus coffee shop, but she didn't bother to go inside. Instead, she stood on the steps, arms outstretched, and laughed. A real, full-throated laugh that erupted from deep within her. The world had never seemed so bright.
