The email arrived like a sudden storm. From Kevin, the kid who had made his life miserable in junior high. The request sat there, a tiny, digital bomb. Daniel found himself unable to focus on his work. The spreadsheet in front of him blurred, the numbers swimming before his eyes.

He pushed away from his desk. He headed to the window, staring at the cityscape outside. He felt a deep, gnawing unease.

He felt a sudden, inexplicable urge to clean, to scrub away the lingering residue of that painful period of his life. He began to organize his desk, a feverish, almost frantic activity, trying to impose order on the chaos brewing inside.

He picked up the phone and started calling around, wanting to hear other people's voices to ground him again.
