Gemotions

He hadn't slept well in weeks. Every night the same swirling, chaotic thoughts would plague him. He needed something to occupy his mind and distract from the persistent, grating drone of worry that haunted his waking hours. He picked up a book, the title long forgotten, from a shelf.

A small, folded piece of paper tumbled out. It was a recipe, handwritten in a looping script, for something called "comfort soup." He felt a sudden, inexplicable sense of longing.

He read the instructions carefully, each step a small act of self-care. He could almost smell the spices, hear the bubbling of the pot. He felt a strange pull, a sense that something was finally within reach.

He looked at the letter again, and saw a person who needed the recipe. He set about gathering the ingredients, an unfamiliar hope blossoming in the darkness.
