The weight room smelled of iron and exertion. Coach Garcia stood by the window, watching the rain beat against the glass. He had just made the decision, and the aftereffects echoed within him.

He had to eliminate Javier. His grades weren’t good enough, despite his clear potential. The school rules were ironclad, but that didn't stop the feeling of disappointment from settling over him like a shroud.
