"…the rights to a previously unpublished novel… and… the task of completing it," the lawyer said, his tone devoid of emotion. Daniel felt a wave of despair wash over him. His sister, Sophia, had always been the writer in the family. He wanted a clean break from the past, not this. He'd never written anything more than a grocery list.

He went to the old family home, the scent of mildew and mothballs a constant reminder of his past. The house seemed to shrink around him, the walls closing in. He opened the manuscript, a feeling of inadequacy settling in his gut.

Later, he opened a drawer in his father’s old study. Inside was a series of tapes and notes, and, with the information from these, he discovered that the novel was actually a disguised memoir which revealed a secret he had kept from his children; a history of deceit, betrayal, and a hidden fortune in Swiss bank accounts. Daniel had a choice.
