Michael felt a prickle of unease crawl across his skin as he scrolled through the online banking. He was supposed to be checking the joint account, making sure the mortgage was paid. But his fingers, almost of their own volition, had clicked over to a separate account he’d never seen before. A hidden one belonging to Sarah. A considerable amount of money was stashed away there.

He leaned back in his chair, the office light suddenly too bright. He felt a strange pressure building behind his eyes. He’d always believed in complete transparency in their finances. He didn’t know how to digest this discovery.

He stood up abruptly, walked to the window, and stared out. The world outside looked the same, but inside, everything felt... wrong. He ran a hand through his hair, the gesture conveying a silent plea for an explanation.
