The digital clock on the bedside table glared back at him. It was 3:17 AM. James had been tossing and turning for hours. He’d discovered the account yesterday afternoon, hidden in a password-protected file on his wife, Olivia’s, laptop. The balance was almost… insulting.

He pushed himself up and walked over to the window, staring out at the inky blackness. He felt the sting of betrayal, the sharpness of the unspoken questions that now filled his mind.

He sat on the bed again, and now he was getting a headache. He wondered if this was the beginning of the end. He lay back down, but sleep seemed impossible, and so did the idea of facing Olivia in the morning.
