The professor’s words echoed in Daniel’s ears. He could still see the expression on the man's face, a look of tired resignation. Daniel felt a coldness spread through him. He hadn't expected this. He had come to the university with such optimism, such hope. Now, he felt as if the very ground he stood on had been ripped away.

He walked aimlessly through the campus, the familiar paths now imbued with a sense of loss. He noticed details he'd never seen before: the peeling paint on a bench, the chipped brickwork of a building. He felt a deep connection to this place, a place he was now being forced to leave.

He sought solace in the library. Surrounded by the quiet rustle of pages, he opened a book, but the words swam before his eyes. He couldn't focus. He felt a profound sense of helplessness, a feeling that threatened to consume him entirely.
