The stale air of the bus station pressed on David. Sleepless nights had become the norm, a relentless cycle of worry and introspection. His body ached, his mind raced, and the future seemed a vast, unknowable expanse. The train was late, of course.

He sat on a bench, head in his hands, trying to regulate his breathing. A woman sat beside him, nervously adjusting her scarf. “That medical journal… is that about the… the thing?” she asked, her voice barely a whisper.

David looked up, his weary gaze meeting hers. A hesitant shared understanding bloomed between them.
