It had taken days, but she'd finally found it, tucked away in the glove compartment. “Visit the pyramids of Giza.” A single, simple sentence. Now, the room seemed to spin around her. Her vision swam.

She walked to the window, staring at the familiar street below, a street that suddenly seemed alien. Each car, each pedestrian, seemed to be mocking her, reminding her of the life she thought she knew, the one that might not exist.

The air in the room felt thick, difficult to breathe. A tremor ran through her body. The thought of confronting him was terrifying, and also the only path forward. The idea of him, without her, seemed to claw at her insides.
